Go To My Photographs

Welcome to my web pages which are a hodge-podge reflecting my past and present interests.  In a previous life I was an engineer and then, after too many years in graduate school, an environmental chemist doing sponsored research (i.e., hustling government grants) and annoying graduate students.  Before all this I was a photographer which I came back to upon retirement from academic life.

After some courses to bring me up to date I built a darkroom and got back into photography in a serious way.  The upshot is that in the past decade or so I have had twelve one-man shows of my work.  I did photo work for the "High Street Neighborhood Guide" as well as other freelance work when the spirit moved m, but now I am largely retired from all that (again).

A few years ago I injured my back while photographing in Monument Valley so that I had to give up the darkroom.  Consequently, I taught myself Adobe Photoshop and now only shoot with a digital camera (formerly an Olympus E-20 and now a Nikon D-80 and Canon G-10).  I have become a devoted Photoshop user and have been transformed from black and white shooting (using a Mamiya 6 loaded with Tri-X) to color, although I convert to grayscale whenever I can.

Interests in addition to photography include art (I was a docent at the Columbus Museum of Art for a dozen years), volunteer work in the community, fishing and fish keeping, and finally, but most importantly, my family.

This site is about photography, mostly my photographs, but also includes information about many of the other things that interest me.  Below are a set of not recent photographs of my grandchildren (they grow up too fast), and then my hearts playing buddies at our annual retreat at the YMCA Willson Outdoor Center (I'm the one in the horrible yellow shirt).  Also see my other pages via the links above and below.
